For knowhowyoufeel
Hannibal was not accustom to being hurt in such a manner. He kept enough of a distance for so long that he thought himself untouchable. He was aware that he wasn't immune to heart ache but he had always believed he had better defences to protect himself. Will had broke a lot of his rules, had invaded his mind and taken over without even realising. It was hard to be confronted with everything he wanted, to get so close and yet make no progress to having or keeping. Will was a distant dream again the moment he knew about Freddie.
And that made everything for nothing. All that hard work and the outcome was such a waste of an opportunity.
In that moment when his hands curled around the knife, Abigail ready to just do whatever he asked, he knew he was looking at an end game here. All he'd built up on was going to tumble down and all because Will just couldn't see sense. He looked the other man in the eyes, knowing that Abigail was a game changer but he simply didn't believe it was enough. He couldn't believe anything Will said any more, the trust had been broken. And it was all such a shame.
"We couldn't leave without you."
And with that, he dared to reach out, to touch Will once more and feel the connect that they once had. Ruined now, of course.
